Unfortunately, we have come to the conclusion that IV Infusions may not be suitable for pregnant women. This is due to a lack of safety data regarding the effects of high doses of vitamins and micronutrients on unborn babies and infants.
What is and Intravenous (IV) Vitamin drip
An Intravenous (IV) Drip is a treatment that delivers fluids, vitamins and minerals into the bloodstream through a small catheter inserted into a vein. This method allows for rapid absorption of nutrients, as it bypasses the digestive system, which may provide better bioavailability of the substances being administered.
Does breastfeeding affect IV infusions?
Its recommended that if you plan on having an IV infusion you express milk 24hrs pre your appointment, and no breast feeding 48hrs post your IV infusion. You may express your milk post your IV infusion but should discard the milk.
Can I still get an iV infusion if I'm taking oral vitamin supplements already?
Yes, taking vitamin supplements is generally fine before an IV infusion. If you’re taking high doses of certain vitamins, such as Vitamin C or B12, consult with the clinic or your healthcare provider to ensure safe levels.
Is it recommended to fast before an IV?
No, fasting is not required. In fact, eating and drinking beforehand is recommended as it helps keep you hydrated and makes it easier for the nurse to find your veins. A light meal and plenty of fluids can improve comfort during the infusion.
